Home Window Materials
Consumers have a growing number of options for window materials available to them and at a reasonable price too.
Material Options for Your Window:
Wood - The old stand by wood windows has been used by more homeowners than any other frame type. It is a good insulator in attractive but does require a larger amount of maintenance particularly on the outside.
Aluminum - Aluminum windows have a stronger frame which is appealing but is one of the poorer insulators of your frame options. If you live in a climate with more extreme seasonal changes you may want to think twice about usin aluminum.
Vinyl - Vinyl is a product that offers a great value. Vinyl windows offer good frame strength, insulation and requires very little maintenance.
Fiberglass - More recently available fiberglass windows offer a "best of both worlds". It offers a very strong frame like aluminum does but with the better insulating qualities of vinyl or wood. Fiberglass windows are new and thus are likely to have a higher cost attached to them.
Clad - Clad windows offer another great "have your cake and eat it too" alternative. Clad windows allow homeowners to have the natural beauty of wood on the inside of the hose while the outside is protected by a vinyl (or similar low maintenance material) covering.
